The Austrian Mint

The Austrian Mint, located in Vienna, is one of the world's oldest mints still in existence today. The origins trace back all the way to Duke Leopold V in the 1100s after he captured and imprisoned King Richard the Lionheart during his return from the Crusades. The ransom paid by Richard, in order to restore his freedom, laid the foundation for over 800 years of minting history.

Silver Philharmonic

While the Gold Philharmonic coins began back in 1989, their silver counterpart did not com into play until 2008. The silver version of Austria's ever popular design was unsurprisingly and instant hit with an initial mintage of approximately 7.8 million coins! But their success didn't stop there. Demand of the Silver Philharmonic coins continued to increase steadily from year to year with their largest mintage to date ringing in at 17.87 million in 2011.
